Communities of Practice

There are several Communities of Practice available to Council officers to support climate mitigation and adaptation related work.

Some communities of practice are coordinated by WAGA, others by individual councils or other Greenhouse Alliances.  Some are available only for Greenhouse Alliance member council officers, others are available for any Council officer to join. Key groups are listed below.

Adaptation Community of Practice

The Adaptation Community of Practice seeks to bring together council officers across metropolitan Melbourne confronting the impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on vulnerable residents and their capacity to cope during heatwaves.

All Electric Councils Information Group

For councils sharing information about electrification and degasification of their buildings and facilities, led by WAGA and Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA) for Victorian councils.  Available to Victorian Greenhouse Alliance members only.

Climate Emergency Councils (Officers)

This is a discussion group for council officers who are responding to the climate emergency- it is open to officers from any Australian council regardless of whether their Council has declared a Climate Emergency or is a member of Climate Emergency Australia.

Electrify Everything Communications Community of Practice

A Community of Practice for council officers to discuss communicating electrification to their residents and businesses and a place to share ideas, documents, ask questions and collaborate.

Net Zero Working Group

The Net Zero Working Group brings councils together to discuss: 1. GHG Accounting practices and reporting 2. Scope 3 boundaries 3. Net Zero target setting 4. Credible used of carbon offsets towards net zero targets 5. Measuring and claiming impact of community emission reduction programs as ‘Beyond Value Chain Abatement’. 6. Net Zero certification.  Available to Victorian Greenhouse Alliance members only.

Zero Emissions Vehicles Information Group

This group is for discussion and information sharing on all things zero emissions vehicles – everything from the best chargers, appropriate vehicles, new technology, issues with upgrading sites, experience with vehicles, maintenance issues, etc.
