Hobsons Bay City council will hold a very special event on 2 June 2019 – World Environment Day (WED). The council is renowned for its vibrant family-friendly WED celebrations, but this year the event will be a bit unusual…
The council is keen to encourage a fresh perspective on the climate change challenge – through the arts. An Environmental Arts Hub at Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre, including Flock, an interactive art activity, and The Overwintering Project exhibition, will be features of the day. These projects highlight in new, practical and inspiring ways the plight of migratory and resident shorebirds in the region from climate change and other threats. These artistic initiatives are designed to engage everyone – young people just starting to understand the environment, people disengaged by the politics and usual conversations, new residents from culturally and ethnically diverse communities, as well as those already active in environmental protection.
There will be lots of other activities as well – at Logan Reserve, Altona Library and on Altona Beach.
