WAGA welcomes My Smart Garden

Thinking globally but acting locally is not only an empowering way to engage with climate concerns but also to hone your resiliency in hard times, make the most of your resources and find a little space for reflection, renewal and bliss. What could be better?

Since 2011 the My Smart Garden program has been a one stop resource for the experienced and new gardener alike providing skills-based workshops, best-practice gardening resources and building community connections around sustainable living and ‘smart’ urban gardening in the west.

The ‘smart garden’ combines a sustainable way of growing your own organic produce, providing additional shelter from extreme weather through strategic plantings, recycling organic waste into valuable compost, minimising water use and creating a habitat for beneficial birds and insects.

Collectively, smart gardens divert significant organic waste from landfill, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save potable water.

Now, the program is being offered by the Cities of Moonee Valley, Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Brimbank and Wyndham, as well as Moreland, Yarra and Stonnington. Join the My Smart Garden community here.

*Events, field visits and workshops are under COVID-19 restrictions, currently held in virtual spaces.
